Wolves and Arsenal played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Molineux, with the hosts staging a late comeback to snatch a point.
Arsenal looked to be in control after first-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Piero Hincapie gave them a 2-0 lead. Saka's opener came just 5 minutes in, with the winger cutting in from the left and firing a low shot past the goalkeeper. Arsenal dominated possession (58%) and had more than double the number of shots on target (4 vs 2) compared to Wolves in the first half.
However, Wolves pulled one back in the 61st minute through Hee-Chan Bueno, who slotted home after good work from Santiago Bueno to set him up. This goal seemed to galvanize the home side, who started to turn the screw. Despite Arsenal attempting more shots (10 vs 5) and having a higher expected goals value (1.60 vs 0.29), Wolves' persistence paid off in the 90th minute when Toti Edozie headed in a late equalizer.
The tactical reason why Wolves were able to claw their way back into the game was their ability to overwhelm Arsenal in midfield. Wolves' intense pressing and physicality, exemplified by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde's 7 tackles, disrupted Arsenal's rhythm and forced them into more turnovers (42% passing accuracy in the second half compared to 82% in the first half). This allowed Wolves to regain control of the game and create more chances, ultimately leading to their two well-deserved goals.
